The Circus Maximus was used for chariot races and other games for a full
one thousand years. It could hold more than 200,000 spectators, or almost
a quarter of the population of Rome. (Detail of a model by Gismondi,
Museum of Roman Civilization.)

Today it is a favorite spot for joggers and awaits excavation.
